A Cold Fall Coming to Moraine

The Cincinnait Business-Journal reports on the accelerated closure of Moraine Assembly, with a little under half the workforce about to be laid-off.

General Motors Corp.'s Moraine plant took another step toward the end of the line Monday when officials announced plans to eliminate the second shift starting Sept. 29.

The decision will cut about 1,000 hourly, salaried and temporary employees from the payroll at the Dayton-area facility, said Jessica Peck, a plant spokeswoman. That leaves about 1,400 workers at the plant.

The tendency is to avert ones eyes in the face of this economic trainwreck, but 1,000 people are losing their paycheck, 1,000 people, probably a lot with familys and house payments, out-of-work in a weak economy.

It's going to be a cold fall here.
